Automated Control Engineer

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for creating PLC-based automation systems for new and existing ABB robots.
  • Upgrading older relay based systems to PLC-based systems which includes configuring HMI (Human Machine Interface) devices such as touch screens and display panels.
  • Responsible for creating and updating existing Plant Electrical schematics in Auto-Cad and AM Teamwork, and creating one-line power schematics for the entire facility.
  • Working with outside vendors and contractors to perform specialized repairs.
  • Revising plant electrical drawings; creating Excel spreadsheets to analyze and present data from the shop floor, revising maintenance manuals and lube sheets, and assisting other plant engineers with upgrades/maintenance on existing plant hardware and equipment.
  • Designs, develops, tests, and/or supervise the manufacturing and installation of electrical equipment, components, and systems as it applies to our equipment, plant operations, and data collection.
  • Investigates customer and manufacturing’ s complaints, determine root cause of issues, and recommend, design, and implement corrective measures.
  • Assists in developing capital projects for new equipment, processes, and equipment upgrades.
  • Performs detailed calculations in support of projects.
  • Inspects completed installations / projects and confirm conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards.
  • Generates work instructions, preventative maintenance schedules and procedures as required
  • Develops applications of controls, instruments, and systems for new commercial, domestic, and industrial uses.
  • Directs and coordinates operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment and systems in field installations.
  • Develops applications of controls, instruments, and systems for new commercial, domestic, and industrial uses.
  • Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks.
  • Create and commission industrial controls systems, PLC software design, and HMI screens, for different industries and environments.
  • Responsible for PLC/HMI code development, code installation, debug on job site, and commissioning of the complete system.
  • Conduct the peripheral device programming, machine PLC programming, coordinate the machine debug, power-up, and machine validation with build and electrical teams.
  • Ensure that systems are designed and programmed to customer and/or client build specifications using standard techniques and approaches.
  • Travel to customer sites for installation and startup of systems.

Qualifications
  • PLC, RsLogix, Contrologix, Allen Bradley SLC500 and Micrologix
  • Program and Hardware structure of Allen Bradley, Siemens, Telemecanique, Modicon, GE, Mitsubishi, Omron, Wago, Other
  • Produce detailed design drawings, electronic models, specifications, written reports, project schedules and other related materials
  • Use electrical engineering tools, such as computer-aided drafting and engineering and design software and equipment, to carry out responsibilities.
  • The ability to design electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic circuits using AutoCAD and to research and purchase items to complete designs.
  • In depth knowledge of PLC’ s and various HMI’ s and associated control programming software.
  • Excellent grasp of robotics and motion controls, including ABB or Fanuc robots and their programming and hardware structure
  • Good understanding of PLC based automated machinery
  • Familiarity with Allen Bradley SLC 500, Micrologix and ControlLogix
  • 3+ years of experience in industrial automated machinery, robotics, controls systems programming and commissioning. 
  • Experience with an integrator preferred
  • Experience with diverse brand controls equipment (Rockwell, Siemens) such as PLCs, HMIs, servo drives, VFDs, motion controllers, power supplies, and sensors.
  • Experience with controls network setup and commissioning such as Ethernet and Profibus.
