OPS Specialist/Helpdesk

Our client is a multinational corporation that designs, manufactures, markets, and distributes vehicles and vehicle parts. They are among the world’ s largest automakers. From electric cars to heavy-duty full-size trucks, they provide a complete range of vehicles that meets the needs and expectations of drivers on a global scale.  

Responsibilities
  • Coordinating and performing work under general direction from their IT manager, in-line with company  policies and procedures
  • Contact application lead, business owner, and lead business stakeholders by shift as needed
  • Lead support for one or more local unique applications, only if the site has local unique applications
    Initiate incident process and follow-up
  • Configure PC/printer mappings
  • Provide initial troubleshooting of Internet connectivity issues 
    Perform asset audits
  • Build clients (GMOL/plant floor/wireless) per automated build script
  • Configure a mobile phone for the plant
  • Configure a plant floor scanner
  • Configure a plant floor printer
  • Audit Telecommunications Closets 
  • Swap switches with little guidance as needed
  • Produce Cornerstone documentation and follow-up on compliance
  • Power up/down infrastructure equipment

 

Qualifications
  • Typically At least 2 - 5 years on site Manufacturing and/or IT experience
  • A bachelor’ s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience
  • Experience with Cimplicity based applications like Cimplicity, PR&T, EPS & PPS
  • Experience with Windows, VMware, RHEL 5.x or later & SLES 11
  • Expertise in executing, testing & validating OS & patches via Change Control
  • Expertise in maintaining server configurations to a central standard 
  • Expertise in operations support - responding to requests and providing ongoing day to day support at the site level
  • General knowledge of performing administrative tasks for a VM farm server
  • Experience with Windows Server operating systems
  • Experience with a Virtual Server environment
  • Knowledge of IT Security, e.g., Threats & Vulnerabilities
  • Familiar with a variety of the field' s concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan.
  • Excellent level of analytical ability, communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships with team members and customers to solve problems and resolve issues
  • Demonstrates initiative by reaching beyond work assigned to improve output and/or help others
  • Proven ability in project management skills and ability to teach others
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and significantly complex projects and assignments with high level of autonomy and accountability for results
  • Demonstrated ability in lead projects by coordinating the work of others
  • Know all applications and general business function supported at plant
  • Ability to understand an application’ s design in the plant (how hosted, what database/OS) for all vital and critical applications at the site
  • Basic understanding of LAN/WAN concepts (knows what TCP/IP is)
  • Basic understanding of our switches (can find the power button, knows if there is a power button, knows how many ports are on a switch, know the difference between a core and a distributed switch)
  • Knows the basic topography of their plant
  • Basic understanding of wireless communications in the plant
  • Know which operating systems run on which server hardware 
  • Know which applications run on which operating systems and hardware 
  • Basic understanding of BUR and storage environments (which equipment, O/S, etc) 
  • Basic understanding of VMWare concepts (which is the host, etc.)
  • Knowledge of GMIT Incident Management Processes with strong incident management & trouble shooting skills
  • User level skill set of monitoring tools like Site Scope or HP-OM
  • Experience with execution of changes to the server infrastructure including but not limited to: server build; server refresh; updating BIOS, firmware, drivers, and OS; security patches; hardware configuration; OS configuration
  • Basic Security knowledge
  • Able to test/validate and deploying OS & patches via Change Control process
  • Able to maintain server configurations to a central standard and providing operations support - responding to requests and providing ongoing day to day support at the site level 
  • Knowledge of SQL and Oracle
  • Knowledge of GMIT Infrastructure including Software and Architecture
  • Knowledge of SharePoint
  • Exercise a high level of independent judgment
