Application Security Engineer

 

**W2 contract, Min of 12 months** REMOTE, working Pacific Time Zone**

 

Our client is seeking an experienced Application Security Engineer with a hacker mindset that can build, operate, and iteratively improve a comprehensive security assurance program to maturity. This individual will be provided delegated tasks and be empowered to work on self-initiated projects. Experience with agentic AI and large scale data platforms used to train AI models is strongly preferred, but not a requirement.

 

Key Responsibilities
  • Build and mature a security assurance program that covers an agentic AI mobile app and a dedicated AI and data platform
  • Perform comprehensive code reviews and participate in pair programming sessions to ensure security best practices are implemented at the development stage
  • Lead security reviews for new and existing applications and services
  • Execute regular perimeter scans to identify potential vulnerabilities in our external-facing assets
  • Develop, implement, enforce, and iterate on security policies and standards related to product development and engineering
  • Configure vulnerability scans, process the alerts, and collaborate with engineering teams to remediate confirmed vulnerabilities
  • Configure and iterate on security testing processes within the CI/CI pipeline
  • Define and enforce SLAs for confirmed vulnerabilities
  • Conduct risk assessments and threat models for current and future applications or services
  • Create and iterate on a red team program with involvement from engineering teams
  • Provide security consulting and guidance to cross-functional teams
  • Stay current with current threat landscape, emerging threats and mitigation techniques

 

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in application security or related security engineering roles
  • Strong knowledge of secure coding practices, common vulnerabilities (OWASP Top 10), and remediation techniques
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript)
  • Experience with static and dynamic application security testing tools
  • Experience working within a start up environment
  • Proficiency in Public Cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP) & network security
  • Familiarity with security standards and frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, OWASP SAMM)
  • Highly capable for building and operating secure, reliable systems at scale, with a proven track record in similar environments
  • Strong experience implementing security within CI/CD pipelines and working with development teams to achieve security assurance goals
  • Strong understanding of web application architectures and technologies
  • Strong technical expertise with multi-cloud environments, including container/serverless and other microservice architectures
  • Strong experience with implementing security measures for both applications and data storage, with an understanding of the unique security requirements of data warehouse technologies such as Snowflake
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex security concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Security certifications (e.g., CISSP, CSSLP, OSCP) preferred
