Summary:
The main function of an Alias design modeler is to create Class A Surface data for scale and full size exterior and interior models of proposed corporate products. A typical Alias design modeler must be an expert in Alias, have experience in Maya, have strong creativity and initiative, and must be able to exercise wide latitude for independent judgment with only moderate supervision given by management.
Job Responsibilities:
Serve as the single point of contact for design management and lead the contract modeler team.
Translate sketches into models with minimal design direction.
Create multi-media visual presentations, with high impact renderings and graphics.
Research new technologies and apply them to improve existing techniques.
Create 2D and 3D graphic collages, studio documents.
Aid in design and engineering problem solving.
Creates new and improve existing digital models using other software programs.
Produce finished data, renderings, and animations to specification.
May create B surface data on specific projects.
Assist studio personnel in developing solutions to engineering and design problems.
Coordinate input from internal and external customer to better understand customer needs and/or perceptions.
Actively identify new areas for learning and takes advantage of learning opportunities
Skills:
5-7 years Digital Sculpting Experience Creative & Production skills
Advanced knowledge of Automotive Alias Design Modeling technologies and techniques
Strong experience in Maya Modeling
Intermediate knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Knowledge in Sketcher, Photoshop, Illustrator, Maya and Bunkspeed.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others.
Ability to work effectively with business partners to meet established goals and objectives.
Strong problem solving and analytical skills to effectively develop solutions to engineering and design issues.
Strong leadership ability to lead and direct a project.
Ability to work under tight timelines and handle multiple assignments
Strong ability to create production math models (i.e. die pulls, draft angles, stitching, part breakups, etc.) using high tolerance specifications.
Ability to create accurate math models from scan data.
Ability to create high quality photorealistic renderings.
Creative background with strong emphasis in Graphics and Digital Applications.
Strong expertise in rapid prototyping and Unigraphics (UG), Surfacing Class A, Surfacing Class B, Animation and Alias.
Past experience in clay modelling preferred
Education/Experience:
Bachelors Degree with a major in Industrial Design or equivalent experience
5-7 years Digital Sculpting Experience Creative & Production skills
