Litigation Paralegal
Responsible, under minimal supervision, to facilitate the legal aspects of and provide legal support to relative to litigation matters. This role will coordinate and manage the defense of class actions, and intellectual property, product liability, employment, and complex commercial litigation matters, and coordinate and manage eDiscovery, communicate with outside counsel, the in-house legal team, company employees and executives, and third party vendors. This role will assist in counseling employees on various aspects of litigation. In addition, this role will evaluate risks, make decisions, and lead responses to various claimants and state and federal regulatory agencies and consumer protection/advocacy agencies. These efforts in particular are critical to customer service, brand protection, and public relations.
• Works independently, and is considered a seasoned and experienced professional with adequate understanding of job responsibilities.
• Determine approach to work, and is monitored/supervised based more on milestone basis, and at key deliverable junctures.
• Able to work in a challenging, fast paced environment, and to manage multiple ongoing projects and competing priorities.
• Interface with outside counsel on discovery process and conduct discovery.
• Coordinate responses to third party subpoenas.
• Lead responses to elevated consumer complaints, small claims court, and consumer protection/advocacy agency matters.
• Manage litigation hold process.
• Track litigation status and prepare litigation status reports.
• Facilitate and conduct formal and informal presentations to company personnel to increase awareness of legal issues.
• Maintain a current working knowledge of federal laws which impact discovery processes.
• Participate in meetings and workshops in an attempt to improve company policies on eDiscovery.
• Perform required research, as requested. Work on special projects assigned by other legal team members.
• Perform work within company and regulatory guidelines.
8-10 years of directly related experience or Bachelor's Degree with 5-7 years of experience is required. Associates Degree with 5-7 years of experience or a strong record as a paralegal may be considered.
Certified by National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA), National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA), or comparable organization preferred.
Prior experience in a corporate legal department preferred. Prior experience handling elevated consumer complaints / assisting customer service department strongly preferred.
