Title: Plant Engineer
Reports to: Owner/President
Position Summary:
Plans, implements, and oversees plant engineering activities, including capital projects and facility upgrades. Specializes in design, mechanical and process engineering while supporting other department functions. Responsible for designing, installing, and implementing new/upgraded plant and processing equipment, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of existing equipment and processes. Manages bids for services and equipment and acts as the project manager for specific capital projects. Writes equipment specifications for new/upgraded equipment. When applicable, trains maintenance and plant personnel in equipment use and care.
Position Responsibilities:
Percent of Time
- Engineering: 30%
Lead the design and implementation of high-priority engineering projects (process, facilities, mechanical, electrical, etc.)
- Research & Development / Process Engineering: 25%
Assist in transferring R&D designed products to production assets, troubleshoot existing processes, and improve them.
- Maintenance: 25%
Assist the maintenance department in necessary equipment upgrades or repairs when required.
- Planning: 10%
Assist management and other departments in evaluating and recommending cost/benefit analysis for modified and new equipment.
- Training: 5%
Assist in designing and implementing training programs for all departments to improve processes, quality, and efficiency.
- Performs other duties as required by management: 5%
Required Education and Experience:
- BS Degree in Engineering (Manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering)
- Minimum 10 years of plant engineering experience
- Experience in chemical handling and thermal drying
- Proficient in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, data analysis programs, or related software
- Proficient in mechanical design, industrial electronics, and plant layout
- Familiar with NFPA processes, including but not limited to, gas, electric, fire safety, and Factory Mutual (FM) requirements
- Experience evaluating and troubleshooting manufacturing processes and machinery
- PLC Troubleshooting (PLC programming not required)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
Education and Experience Preferences:
- Experience with one or more of the following:
- Web handling and roll-to-roll web coating
- Textile Manufacturing
- Float glass manufacturing

Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs. at a time
- Must be able to traverse plant areas, access, and navigate all areas of the plant
- Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures in the plant
- Ability to bend, twist, kneel, reach, push, pull, climb ladders, be on platforms, wear respirators, and other PPE equipment
- Manual dexterity to evaluate, install, and modify equipment
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Ability to travel (by vehicle, airplane, other) as required
Travel Requirements: ~5%
- Generally going to customer or vendor facilities to approve designs or equipment
